The Giving Program was begun in an attempt to meet the
current and future needs of individuals in Washington
County
who are developmentally disabled. At
present, because of a lack of adequate financial resources, there is a list to
receive services. The current
number of individuals receiving services is also rising as the parents of the
Baby Boomers pass on, and the number of federal and state dollars to provide for
their care has dwindled. In face,
new legislation in Ohio
actually mandates a ‘pecking order’ in how our local levy money is spent,
jeopardizing our preschool programs. The
solution to the resource problem is to both become more entrepreneurial in our
approach to creating revenue and also at the same time to create a private, independent
savings fund. The Giving Program
will create a pool of assets from which our developmentally disabled adults and
children will be able to draw.
