Transportation The WCBDD operates 16 buses which log more than 18,000 miles a month transporting enrollees to and from program sites. Dave Carpenter is the Director of Transportation and maintains his office at WASCO, 373-3418. Door-to-door transportation is provided to all WCBDD enrollees. Currently all 16 buses plus 3 nine-passenger vans are equipped with wheelchair lifts to accommodate individuals with physical disabilities. Mid-day transportation is not provided. Local school districts are responsible for mid-day transportation for half-day or part-time students on IEP's attending Ewing School. Transportation is also provided for numerous community instructional trips, adult recreation, and Special Olympics events. Alternative transportation is provided by the Community Action Bus Lines (C.A.B.L.) WCBDD enrollees utilize local taxi services. The buses pick up and deliver
children and adults from the
five local school districts. Transportation operates 12 months a year. Emergency Closing/Calamity (Bad Weather) Days A calamity day is declared by the Superintendent when weather conditions endanger the safe operations of the program. When Ewing School buses are operating on a 2-hour delay all staff will also be on a 2-hour delay. When a 2-hour delay occurs, there will be no AM preschool. In case of bad weather, check your local radio and TV broadcasters for information of school delays or closings. Should inclement weather cause you to wonder if Ewing School or WASCO Inc is cancelled or delayed, tune into: Television: WTAP Channel 4 on Cable If weather conditions demand an early closing of the program, it will be broadcast on these stations and we will also try to contact you by phone. If you are away from home on such a day, please call transportation at 373-3418 and leave a number where we may contact you. Contact Dave Carpenter @ 740/373-3418 |
