Services for Children 3-21
Preschool
Ewing School offers four half-day preschool classes as well as one full-day kindergarten readiness class for children with and without developmental delays. All classrooms operate four days per week and are staffed by teachers certified in Early Childhood Special Education. Children with special needs who are between the ages of 3 and 6 may attend Ewing’s Program based upon their Individual Education Plan (IEP) and referral by their local school district. In addition to classroom learning activities, children may receive speech, physical, and occupational therapies according to their needs. In addition, each classroom has swim times in the warm water pool at our school.
Typical partners are an important part of Ewing’s Preschool Program. The integration of children with and without delays allows each of them to learn from the other in a structured preschool environment. The preschoolers without delays are selected following spring and fall screenings and pay tuition to attend.
School Age
Teachers in the school age classrooms are certified by the State of Ohio to teach students with multiple disabilities and severe autism. Students may also receive a variety of therapies according to their needs. The students are afforded community training and cultural opportunities.
Ewing School’s Program for students with multiple disabilities ages from 6 to 22 years offers specialized instruction to assist students to acquire new skills in self-reliance and community involvement. They are provided with a positive, nurturing environment which meets their educational and physical or medical needs. The students in the school age classrooms also have scheduled swim times in Ewing’s warm water pool.
Head Start
A Washington-Morgan County Community Action Head Start Classroom is located at Ewing School and operates in partnership with the Ewing Preschool program. Eligible students in the Head Start program at Ewing attend preschool half a day and Head Start the other half. Breakfast and lunch are included in the Head Start program at Ewing.
